Tinnitus
& Sophrology
Tinnitus is a hearing sensation that is not caused by outside noise.
Tinnitus is noises that you hear in one ear (or both) or in your head without having been emitted by an outside source. These symptoms are often related to acoustic trauma or aging of the ear.
The perceived sound can differ for each person and may sound like a buzzing, hissing, squealing, ringing, hissing, buzzing, chirping, clicking ...
The noise heard occurs either suddenly or gradually during a:
Sound shock (noisy concert, exposure to a machine / tool / alarm, etc.)
Emotional shock (episode of stress, difficult ordeal, etc.)
-
It is constant or intermittent.
-
It can be more intense in certain circumstances (fatigue, stress, change in the position of the head, etc.)
-
It can appear in one ear or both and sometimes "in the head on top of the head".
Having tinnitus episodically, especially in a very quiet atmosphere, is not abnormal. It is the repetition of the perception of this noise which affects the quality of life and which encourages consultation.
There are two types of tinnitus:
" Objective " tinnitus:
-
they are rare (5% of cases) and correspond to the noise of an organ located inside the body (ex: noise of blood circulating in a vessel in the neck or head).
-
An outside person can hear it. Their cause must be investigated, because treatment is often possible.
" Subjective " tinnitus:
-
In 95% of cases. They are purely "subjective"
They take the form of ringing in the ears or whistling.
-
Only perceived by the patient.
"Subjective" tinnitus is associated with hearing impairment.
Often, they follow on from:
Repeated acoustic trauma (for example: listening to music at very high volume, occupation exposed to noise, etc.);
A normal hearing loss associated with aging of the ear, or presbycusis. This phenomenon is frequently associated with the presence of tinnitus in people over the age of 50.
"Subjective" tinnitus can also be caused by a condition that affects the hearing system.
For example :
A plug of cerumen or a foreign body in the ear often accompanied by a decrease in hearing acuity;
Otitis media: inflammation of the ear that develops in a small bone cavity behind the eardrum, often causing pain;
Otosclerosis: degeneration of the ossicles of the middle ear leading to ear dysfunction and responsible for deafness;
Ménière's disease: due to an increase in pressure in the labyrinth, of unknown origin, it is the cause of intense and rotating vertigo attacks, which last from about twenty minutes to a few hours. These attacks are accompanied by severe nausea and vomiting, tinnitus and hearing loss. The disease progresses to chronic lesions of the labyrinth responsible for chronic dizziness, permanent balance disorders and progressive deafness;
Impairment of the auditory nerve or the inner ear (taking ototoxic drugs for example).
"Objective" tinnitus is rare.
They are often due to vascular diseases such as an anomaly of an artery in the neck or in the head (carotid artery or vertebral artery for example) or to arterial hypertension and they are then pulsatile (punctuated by the beating of the heart). It is important to diagnose the disease that causes tinnitus because it is treatable.
Continuous or recurring tinnitus is the most difficult to treat, because most of the time, specialists cannot know what is the origin of this sound impression. If the cause is not determined, we cannot cure the origin of the problem, but there is still a solution for the patients who suffer from it.
There are many causes of tinnitus, but they are most often related to age or trauma.
A
multidisciplinary care
As soon as tinnitus appears, you should:
A report with your ENT doctor who will indicate the procedure to follow
An audiological check-up with an audioprosthetist.
A first consultation with a sophrologist or therapist specializing in hearing disorders.
The ear only picks up the sound, it is not the ear who decides that this noise is a parasite and that it should be got rid of, but the brain.
Consciousness defines this resonance as unpleasant and abnormal. Treatment involves getting the brain to stop seeing tinnitus as bothersome and get used to it.
In order to achieve this, it is necessary to consult a certain number of specialists: ENT, hearing aid specialist, osteopath, sophrologist, psychologist, etc.
Sophrology is a psycho-body therapy created in the 1960s by the neuropsychiatrist Alfonso Caycedo. It is a brief therapy that helps harmonize body and mind, regulate emotions and reduce stress levels. The therapeutic work is based on a clinical protocol. It is an educational therapy based on the learning of breathing and relaxation. The success of the method relies on training.
Sophrology is a great tool that allows this so-called "habituation" process.
I support people who suffer from tinnitus thanks to a protocol that allows the brain to no longer process this parasitic sound.
Over the course of the sessions and thanks to the training, this sound is no longer bothersome, and a phenomenon of indifference to symptoms is established.
The complete protocol includes 8 sessions of 1 hour.
At the end of this protocol, patients regain their well-being and become autonomous to regain control of their lives.
Curing tinnitus is not about “not hearing it anymore”.
Curing tinnitus involves being indifferent to the tinnitus.

My approach
As a Sophrologist specializing in tinnitus and hyperacusis, I collaborate with the Large Hearing Therapies Pole , for multidisciplinary care:
ENT doctors
Hearing aid professionals who will receive you free of charge to perform audiograms and tinnitus
Psychologists and therapists specializing in CBT (cognitive and behavioral therapy) who will be able to effectively support you in the face of psychological pain while reducing the stress associated with tinnitus
Physiotherapists, osteopaths
I specialized in the accompaniment of tinnitus because it turned out that more and more clients that I received in stress management, arrived with these symptoms of auditory genes.
This pathology is invisible but very often generates in the patient: stress, suffering, depression ...
To find a professional and personal balance, a daily well-being without letting yourself be overwhelmed by these discomforts, I offer sophrological treatment with a specific protocol to relieve you.
How does the sophrology support work?
Each session takes into account your uniqueness.
The 1st session, without obligation, allows you to get to know each other. Depending on your problem, your expectations, I define a personalized protocol and all the sessions necessary to meet your objectives.
The sessions that follow revolve around breathing exercises, dynamic and gentle relaxation as well as positive visualization exercises.
At the end of each session, you leave with an audio file to practice at your own pace until our next meeting.
It is the training which makes the success of the method and which contributes to the transformation that you want. Gradually, from session to session, you will be able to decode the signals your body sends you, and depending on your initial problem, free yourself from muscle tension, tinnitus, find restful sleep, live peacefully, feel confident, regain motivation and energy to move forward.
* Sophrology is a complementary technique that should not replace a medical consultation. The sophrologist is not a doctor and sophrology does not replace any medical treatment.
